高知県四万十町Shimanto-cho,
Kochi Prefecture

四万十町(しまんとちょう)は、高知県の西南部の町です。
2006年3月20日、高岡郡窪川町と幡多郡大正町・十和村が合併し、
高岡郡の町として新たに誕生しました。
位置は、東から西に流れる四万十川の中流域にあり、
東南部は土佐湾に面しています。
町域は東西43.7km、南北26.5km、総面積642.06平方キロであり、
そのうち林野が87.1%を占め、田畑は4.8%を占めるに過ぎません。
集落の多くは四万十川とその支流の河川沿いや台地上にあり、
一部は土佐湾に面する海岸部にあります。

Shimanto-cho is a town in the southwest portion of Kochi Prefecture.
Kubokawa-cho of Takaoka District and merged with Taisho-cho / Towa-son of Hata District giving birth to a new town in Takaoka District.
The new town is in the middle basin of the Shimanto River on the east and west and faces Tosa Bay to the southeast.
The town dimensions are 43.7 kilometers in the east-west direction and 26.5 kilometers in the north-south direction, a total of 642.06 square kilometers, of which 87.1% is undeveloped land; farmland accounts for only 4.8% of the total.
Most of the settlements are located along the banks of the Shimanto River and its tributaries or plateau. Part of it is on the coast facing Tosa Bay.

四万十大正にいらっしゃいWelcome to Shimanto Taisho

旧大正町は、
面積 199.32平方キロ、総人口 3,240人(2003年)、
幡多郡の北部「北幡地域」に位置し、平野は四万十川、
梼原川沿いにわずかに見られますが、そのほとんどを山林が占めています。
主な特色は、何といっても、四万十川。
最後の清流といわれる四万十川は、
四国西南地域を蛇行しながら流れる延長196kmの一級河川です。
源流は高知県高岡郡津野町の不入山で、
檮原町、四万十町、そして四万十市へ多くの地域を流れ太平洋へと注ぎ込んでいきます。

Formerly known as “Taisho-cho,” the area consisting of 199.32 square kilometers with a population of 3,240 (2003) is positioned in the northern part of the Hata District. Barely visible from the banks if the Shimanto River Yusuhara River, the flat plains consist mostly of mountain forest.

The main feature would have to be the Shimanto River. Sometimes referred to as the “last source of truly pure water,” the class A Shimanto River snakes 196 kilometers through the southwest portion of Shikoku. The source of the river is located in Mt. Irazu in Tsuno-cho, Takaoka-gun, Kōchi Prefecture. The river flows through Yusuhara-cho, Shimanto-cho and most of Shimanto City, emptying into the Pacific Ocean.
